          THE ABC BALLET

Friday I found two 3 year-old girls holding
on, one each, to the two wooden posts that form the front doorway of
our gazebo play area. The two girls were holding opposite legs out,
too, at almost a 90 degree angle.
"What are you doing?" I asked one of
          them.
                "Ballet!" came the answer, which
          should have been obvious.
The 2 friends started to sing the ABCs as each
continued to extend one leg and then bring it up and down. They sang
the song over and over. Then they both ran to a spotnear the back of
the gazebo and ran back still singing, resuming their leg flourishes.

                I wondered if a children's musical producer
had ever thought of the ingenious idea my friends were performing spontaneously
          before me: "The ABC Ballet".
